Getting to know the em-dash

Commas are common. A much more exciting—and often more appropriate—punctuation mark is the em-dash. I used it in the preceding sentence as an interjection, which is one of its main uses. It captures the attention of your readers much mores than a comma and indeed is becoming increasingly recognized as the appropriate punctuation in places where many may be tempted to use commas. Get to know the em-dash and give it a try!
